Android 4.4 KitKat update was announced at the beginning of the month. Since then many handset manufacturers have announced that they will be offering the latest Android update. Google’s Android 4.4 update which was announced in September finally came out on the first of November. The only handset that is running on Android 4.4 is the Nexus 5. Though the new Android update sheds off the Jelly Bean, it is still not a major update. It has been known that the upgrade is expected to come to even older Android handsets.
First of all, the Android 4.4 KitKat update will be made available for the Nexus device but what is surprising is that even Google is mum as to when the update will be made available for Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. What has even more surprised us that other companies have immediately declared the Android 4.4 KitKat updates for their handsets. These are the same companies that took a lot of time to reveal details and even if they announced, there was no surety of timing.
HTC which is one of the slowest to talk about Android updates, immediately announced that the HTC One Google Edition would get the update within 15 days. The developer edition of HTC One was announced to receive the update within 30 days. The regular HTC One was announced to get the update within 90 days. Other HTC handsets to get the new Android update include Droid DNA, HTC One Maxx and HTC One Mini.

Even Sony has confirmed which of its devices are to get the Android 4.4 KitKat updates. There are a couple of Xperia devices to get Android 4.4. Speculations Indicate Android 4.4 Coming After Galaxy S5 Release
Since Samsung has not announced when the Android 4.4 KitKat will be made available for its handsets, many tech analysts feel that the upgrade will arrive after the Samsung Galaxy S5 is launched. In the past, Samsung is known for holding back the updates only to make it available with the flagship model. So, it can so happen that the very first Samsung handset to feature the Android 4.4 will be the Galaxy S5.
Galaxy S5 is expected to come out early in the coming year. Some have even predicted the Galaxy S5 to arrive in January. Even if it does not come in January and one or two months late, Samsung can even roll out the updates first for its older devices.
Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3, First Handsets to Get Android 4.4
Samsung is likely to make the Android 4.4 arrive first on its newest flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3. In the past, we have seen that Samsung releases the upgrade first for the Galaxy S Series handsets and then it is made available to the Galaxy Note series. Going by this, the Galaxy S4 is to get the Android 4.4 followed by the Galaxy Note 2.
Android 4.4 for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2
Tech analysts are of the view that the Android 4.4 is sure to arrive on Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 which are flagship devices of 2012. These handsets are not too old and still are one of the competitive handsets around.
Google recommends that the latest Android update should not be made available that are older than 18 months but still Samsung is known for rolling out updates later to make its devices for longevity to its users. The Galaxy Note 2 is still to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. As of now, there is no news on whether the Korean tech giant will skip the update to make way for Android 4.4. So, first it is going to Android 4.3 followed by Android 4.4 for Galaxy Note 2.
US Customers May Not Get the Update Soon
When it customers to receiving Android updates, US users are not known to receive them early. However, in US there was no delay for Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S4 users. Users who have purchased Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 through carrier may not get Android 4.4 updates in swift manner.
Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 are expected to get the Android 4.3 sooner. The reason why the update is coming sooner is because of Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The new smartwatch from Samsung only works with Samsung devices that are running on Android 4.3. Currently, the smartwatch only pairs with Galaxy Note 3. If more devices are not compatible with Galaxy Gear, the popularity of the smartwatch will not increase.
In a bid to increase the popularity of Galaxy Gear and to make many devices work with it, Android 4.3 update will be made readily available for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. Also, the Korean tech giant will aim attract many customers during the oncoming holiday season. To make the most it, it has to roll out the Android updates quickly. The Android 4.4 will not come so soon to these devices. Probably in 2014 these devices will get Android 4.4
